Heartless Chef Terms of Use
The short version
- You're the cook. The chef is a robot with opinions, not a doctor, dietitian or allergist.
- Read the labels. Allergen checks go by ingredient names and can miss things. Every time. Yes, even that one.
- The AI can be wrong, sometimes with total confidence. A lot like real chefs.
- Cook food safely. Chicken all the way through. For canning or fermenting, follow trusted guidance, not a robot.
- The Heartless chef swears. You picked him. You can unpick him in Settings.
These terms are an agreement between you and Catnap Apps ("we") for using the Heartless Chef app and its online services. By using the app, you agree to them. Our privacy policy and consumer health data privacy policy explain how we handle your information.
You're the cook
- Not medical or nutrition advice. Heartless Chef isn't a doctor, dietitian or allergist. Nutrition numbers are often estimates, and the health score is a rough guide to a recipe. If you have a medical condition or special diet, follow your health professional's advice.
- Allergies. The app and the chef check recipes against the allergies you enter by ingredient name. They can miss an allergen, especially in packaged foods, cross-contact or ingredients with other names. Always read labels, and don't rely on the app alone to keep anyone safe.
- Food safety. You're responsible for cooking food safely: cooking meat, poultry, fish and eggs to safe temperatures, storing and handling food properly, and following trusted guidance for anything risky, like canning, fermenting or preserving.
- The AI can be wrong. The chef's recipes, answers, timings, substitutions, conversions and estimates are written by an AI. They can be wrong or incomplete, and can sound confident when they are. Use your own judgment.
The chef's personalities
Some of the chef's personalities are rude on purpose, and the Heartless one swears. You choose the personality in Settings, and can change it any time. Every personality is told to give safety warnings plainly, without jokes, but like everything the chef says, a warning can be wrong or missing.
Your recipes and content
Recipes, photos and notes you add stay yours, and stay on your device. When you import or share a recipe from someone else, you're responsible for having the right to use it the way you do. Imported recipes keep a credit and a link to where they came from. Recipes the chef writes for you are yours to use.
Share as Link makes a public page of a recipe or collection, which anyone with the link can see. Share only what you have the right to share, and nothing unlawful, hateful, sexual, or meant to harass or deceive. We may take down a shared page, and stop a link working, when it breaks these rules or someone has the right to have it removed. Report one from the link on its page.
Don't use the app to break the law, to try to make the chef produce harmful content, or to overload, probe or get around the limits of our servers.
Heartless Chef Pro and credits
- Pro is a subscription sold by Apple. It renews automatically until you cancel it in your Apple account settings at least 24 hours before it renews. Apple handles payment and refunds.
- Credits are bought through Apple and used for AI requests. They have no cash value, can't be transferred or exchanged for money, and are refunded only as Apple's policies or the law require.
- To keep the service working for everyone, we may limit an account that uses the AI far more than anyone could need for cooking.
- We may change or end AI features. If we end a paid feature, we'll keep unused credits working for other AI features for as long as we can.
Things that come from others
Stock photos come from Pexels under the Pexels license. Videos come from YouTube; watching them means agreeing to YouTube's Terms of Service. Imported recipes come from the websites you choose. We're not responsible for other people's content or services.
No warranty
The app and its services are provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we make no promises that they will be accurate, uninterrupted or free of errors, or fit for a particular purpose.
Limit of liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for any harm that comes from relying on the app's recipes, allergen checks, nutrition information or AI answers. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or US $50.
Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the law where you live that can't be waived, or liability that can't be limited by law.
